Toledo, Ohio is a city in northwest Ohio on the western shore of Lake Erie. It is the fourth largest city in Ohio and serves as a major trade center for the Midwest with the fifth busiest port on the Great Lakes.

 

Toledo is known as the Glass City and has a rich history, culture, and economy. Toledo is known for manufacturing in the glass industry and automotive. 


Toledo has a world-class art museum, symphony orchestra, opera, jazz society, and many theaters, as well as a maritime culture with the National Museum of the Great Lakes. The Metro Parks offer many activities year-round from playgrounds, zip lines, water play zones, a roller skating and ice skating rink, and much more.


Toledo has one of the best zoos and aquariums in the country with over 51 acres and more than 10,000 individual animals from 720 species, with new additions annually.

There is much to do in Toledo! During the spring and summer months a popular pastime is to attend Toledo Mud Hens, baseball games at Fifth Third Field. Fifth Third Field also hosts a series of concerts, among other events. The Crosby Festival of the Arts at the Toledo Botanical Garden draw vendors from around the country. While the city’s Jeep history is celebrated with the Toledo Jeep Fest in August, drawing more than 72,000 people downtown. Locals also peruse the Toledo Farmers Market downtown featuring dozens of vendors selling produce, meat, bread, flowers, jewelry and more year-round on Saturdays.


There is much to do during the fall and winter months, too. The Toledo Walleye ice hockey team is a fan favorite. Families can enjoy the Metro Park sled hills, ice sculptures, cross country skiing, ice fishing, horseback riding or hiking the many trails.

With all that Toledo has to offer, it is still considered relatively affordable with a notable low cost of living. Neighborhoods around the city come with their own, unique characters and are backed by a long list of neighborhood associations. 


Toledo benefits from a relatively affordable housing market. Homes sell for an average of $140,000, much less than the national average. Many of Toledo’s homes date back to the mid-to-late 19th century, but most were built over the course of the 20th century. There are areas of new construction, as well. Colonial, Craftsman bungalow and rancher are the most common architectural styles around the city.



Along the shores of the Maumee are some of the finest historic estates said to have tunnels for the underground railroad. The Historic Old West End offers the very best houses in classic architecture with modern amenities. The mansions and mini-mansions vary widely in price and condition.
